James Spencer

James Spencer qualified as a dentist from the University of Bristol in 1987. He went on to undertake his specialist Orthodontic Training at the Eastman Dental Hospital in London. He obtained his orthodontic qualifications in 1996 and at this time was awarded the Gold Medal for the outstanding candidate in his specialty examinations by the Royal College of Surgeons of England. He then completed further training in preparation to becoming a consultant orthodontist.
James is an NHS consultant at Pinderfields General Hospital and an Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer at Leeds Dental Institute. He is currently Associate Dental Dean at the Yorkshire Deanery and previously was the Training Programme Director for Orthodontics in Yorkshire.
He is secretary of the Consultant Orthodontists Group of the British Orthodontic Society (BOS) and previously was a member of the BOS Conference Committee and Developments and Standards Committee. For 2011-2012 he was Chairman of the Conference and Meetings Committee of the BOS. His main area of interest is in treating severe orthodontic problems including those involving jaw surgery and is a member of the specialist Sleep Apnoea Clinic at Pinderfields Hospital.
He lectures widely in the UK and teaches on the Leeds University Orthodontic Postgraduate Programme.
